Our History
Gandhi Restaurant, formerly known as Gandhi Eating House, is a home-grown brand that started its roots along Serangoon Road. Our Founder, Mr. C. Packirisamy, had only one purpose in mind – to deliver traditional South Indian food with an authentic experience. We started in the early 1970s as a small stall along busy Serangoon Road. Then, there were not a lot of choices for traditional South Indian cuisine in Singapore. In addition, most restaurants do not serve South Indian food the original way. Our Founder saw this as a gap and proceeded to build this restaurant to give locals and tourists the Authentic, Traditional South Indian Food Experience.

Every dish is prepared with passion and careful refinement over the years. Our chefs craft their own recipes to satisfy the tastebuds of our customers and to introduce new dishes, based on customer’s feedback and compliments. Understanding that affordability might be an issue, our Founder fought to keep prices low and competitive. This allowed us to deliver good-priced food with high quality. With all the support from returning customers and tourists over the years, we incorporated our restaurant officially in the 1990s and have never looked back since. What started as a small stall in the 1970s, bloomed into the restaurant we have today along 29/31 Chander Road (Singapore 219538), covering two shophouses. Our menu is continuously revamped to incorporate the latest food dishes and our rice is served on banana leaves to this day. Our customers are highly encouraged to eat with their right hand. If you’re new in town to this experience, we highly recommend eating our dishes this way. Our Must-Try dishes: Chicken Masala, Mutton Masala, Sambal Crabs, and Prawns.
Our customer base consists of returning locals, tourists who walk in for an authentic, traditional South Indian meal, and foreign workers who miss good South Indian food at reasonable prices. The honour is on us, to hear from tourists that they had been introduced to our restaurant through travel sites and word-of-mouth. We have been featured in travel sites like TripAdvisor SG that introduces traditional, South Indian Cuisine in Singapore. Click here to view our Menu.
